If you’ve been in business for yourself for any length of time, you’ve probably dealt with a scenario where you didn’t get paid. It doesn’t take many of those scenarios to get fed up.
I think everyone should switch to the prepay method. It can be a gamechanger for your business.
If you have never done it, it can be intimidating. You might feel like that’s just not how business works or that no clients will agree to that. But it does exist, it can work for you, and you can find clients that are willing to do it.
Once you’re at a certain point in your career, you need to be doing this.
The truth is if you’re freelancing and getting paid net 30 or net 60 for your work, you’re in the business of financing. You’re essentially giving your clients a loan for that invoicing period. There’s no good reason you should be in the business of financing. That’s an entirely different skillset and industry.
Stop extending loans to clients, and start getting prepaid for your work. It will simplify things greatly and reduce your stress levels.
